Jewelry Care
Moissanite is durable — 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, resistant to scratching and chipping under normal wear. With the right care, Aurora Moissanite jewelry will look as good in ten years as it does today.
Chemicals
Avoid exposing jewelry to bleach, chlorine, cleaning products, perfumes, lotions, and hairspray. These products can affect the plating and surface appearance of your jewelry over time. Put jewelry on after applying any products to skin or hair, not before.
Activities
Remove jewelry before swimming, exercising, showering, and sleeping. Chlorinated pool water is particularly damaging to metal platings. Physical activity increases the risk of impact and scratches. Removing jewelry before these activities is the single most effective thing you can do to extend its life.
Cleaning
Clean moissanite jewelry with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft-bristle brush. Gently scrub the stone and setting, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or abrasive cloths. Clean your pieces every few weeks for best results.
Storage
Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, fabric-lined jewelry box, or individual compartment. Storing pieces together causes scratching, particularly between harder stones and softer metal surfaces. Keep jewelry away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes when stored.
Setting Maintenance
Check prong settings periodically for any looseness. If a stone feels loose or a prong appears bent, stop wearing the piece and take it to a professional jeweler for inspection. Catching a loose setting early prevents stone loss.
The Plating
Aurora jewelry is rhodium plated (white gold) or yellow gold plated over S925 sterling silver. Both platings are durable but can wear over time with heavy use. Avoiding the chemicals and activities listed above significantly extends the life of the plating. When replating is needed, any professional jeweler can replate sterling silver jewelry.
