What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone made of silicon carbide. It was first discovered naturally in a meteorite crater in 1893 by Henri Moissan — which is how it got its name. Today all moissanite used in jewelry is produced in a laboratory. It is not a diamond. It is its own distinct material with its own properties, its own grading, and its own reasons to choose it.

How does moissanite compare to diamond?

Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65 compared to diamond's 2.42. The refractive index determines how much a stone bends and disperses light — the higher the number, the more fire (rainbow-effect light dispersion) the stone produces. Moissanite produces more fire than diamond at the same carat weight. In terms of hardness, diamond is 10 on the Mohs scale and moissanite is 9.25 — making it the second hardest gemstone used in jewelry and fully suitable for daily wear including engagement rings.

What does D color mean?

D color is the top grade on the GIA color scale. A D color stone is entirely colorless — no yellow, brown, or grey warmth when viewed against a white background. Every stone sold by Aurora Moissanite is D color.

What does VVS1 clarity mean?

VVS1 (Very Very Slightly Included 1) means the stone has inclusions so minor they are nearly impossible to see under 10x magnification. To the naked eye, a VVS1 stone is completely clean. Every stone sold by Aurora Moissanite is VVS1 clarity.

Is moissanite lab-created?

Yes. All moissanite in the Aurora collection is grown in a laboratory. This means no mining, no conflict supply chain, and no environmental extraction. Moissanite is not a simulant like cubic zirconia — it is a real gemstone made of silicon carbide, produced under controlled laboratory conditions to precise specifications.

What metal is the jewelry made from?

All Aurora jewelry is crafted in S925 sterling silver. White gold styles are finished with rhodium plating for a bright white appearance. Yellow gold styles are finished with yellow gold plating. Both platings are durable for everyday wear.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Estimated delivery within the United States is 7–12 business days after shipment. A tracking confirmation is sent by email once your order ships.

Standard shipping across the United States is $6.99. Orders over $200 ship free.

Can I return my order?

Yes. We accept returns within 30 days of delivery on unused, unworn items in original condition and original packaging. Custom or personalised items, engraved pieces, and final sale items are not eligible for return. Contact us at Hello@auroramoissanite.com with your order number to start a return.

What if I receive a damaged or incorrect item?

Contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photos of the issue. We will review your request and resolve it as quickly as possible.

How do I care for moissanite jewelry?

Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or soft-bristle brush. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals including bleach, chlorine, perfumes, and household cleaners. Remove jewelry before swimming, exercising, and sleeping. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or jewelry box to prevent scratches.

Will the jewelry match the product photos?

We photograph products as accurately as possible. Minor differences in appearance may occur due to screen calibration and lighting conditions. The stone quality — D color and VVS1 clarity — is consistent across all products regardless of how they appear in photographs.
